As Hamilton, 36, races towards a record eighth Formula One title, he is already in pole position in the earnings stakes as the UK’s richest-ever sportsman. Even after signing what is believed to be a slightly less-lucrative one-year deal to race for Mercedes for another season, he is still well ahead of the pack. His previous deal over three years was worth £40 million a year with bonuses per season.

Hamilton has certainly had no problems amassing one of the most exclusive sports cars collections in the world. The F1 driver has an incredible fleet of million dollar cars, all of which have their own unique details.

1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

He decided to purchase the Ford after seeing Steve McQueen handle the car in the popular movie, Bullitt. He was less than impressed with the car after acquiring it, though. Known for being a harsh critic when it comes to cars, this is what Hamilton had to say about the Mustang “…Beautiful car, but a heap of junk. The company did a good job on the paint job, but the rest of the car just isn’t very good, so I never drive it.” Ouch
