On September 25, Anthony Joshua collided with one of the smartest and the most tactical boxers of this generation in Oleksandr Usyk. Not many expected Usyk to turn the tide in his favor. But the Ukrainian boxer employed one of the most prolific game plans to beat Joshua with a unanimous decision.
Joshua, who has god-gifted power, couldn’t connect one significant right hand on Usyk, and subsequently, he ended up capitulating to his second pro-boxing loss. Following this loss, many fans targeted the Brit for his poor performance. Moreover, the verbal attacks on Joshua continue even today. Citing that, Usyk came to Joshua’s aid recently.
Speaking to DAZN Boxing, he said, ”It’s unfortunate to hear they are being harsh on Joshua’s performance. I was there in the ring with him and he was very good. I really do not know where they find grounds for criticism. It was truly a brilliant fight.”
Usyk, in his fight against ‘AJ’, was extremely determined. He employed swift movements and fast punching abilities to confuse the Brit. Moreover, ‘The Cat’ utilized the ring space efficiently, and he got tremendous success in cutting the distance and landing his power-packed left hands.
Joshua couldn’t figure Usyk, as the latter was too fast and skilled for the big man. But, being an experienced star of the division, ‘AJ’ did find some success in the mid-rounds. However, it wasn’t enough for him to win the fight.
Overall, Usyk stole the show that night, and with his aforementioned comments too, the Ukrainian boxer proved that there’s no bad blood between him and Joshua.
Joshua, after his loss to Usyk, had only one thing in mind and that was to rematch ‘The Cat’. The Briton has triggered the rematch officially and the second meet between the duo is expected to get materialized by early 2o22. That said, fans are in for a treat to watch another war between two of the best boxing stalwarts on the planet. It’ll be interesting to see if Joshua turns the tables or Usyk once again proves his mettle.
What do you make of Usyk’s above comments??
