NFL free agent defensive back Tyrann Mathieu is probably feeling disrespected that he is still unsigned. Mathieu sent out a tweet Saturday morning voicing his frustrations with the free agency period. Mathieu has spent the last three years of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs.
In 16 regular-season games in 2021, Mathieu totaled 76 tackles, six pass breakups, three interceptions, and one touchdown. Prior to his time with the Chiefs, Mathieu spent five years with the Arizona Cardinals and one year with the Houston Texans.
On Saturday, Tyrann shared some posts on twitter that got a lot of fans confused on what exactly he was trying to say. some fans believe it’s the frustration of not being signed till now , while others claim it has nothing to do with his current status as a free agent.
Mathieu signed with the Chiefs in 2019 and lifted their defense to a new level. Kansas City won two AFC championships and a Super Bowl with Mathieu on the team while the safety was All-Pro twice and made the Pro Bowl twice. However, his contract is up and Mathieu could get a bigger offer elsewhere.
Mathieu made a base salary of $14,550,000 this past season, according to Spotrac. Mathieu had 76 tackles and three interceptions in the regular season and then six tackles in the postseason. Mathieu could be an attractive free agent to someone if the Chiefs are not willing to pay him.
